At annual meeting of the Canadian Lawn Tennis Association, held in Toronto in the spring, it was decided to enlarge the scope of the association by putting representatives from each province in Canada on the general committee, and at the request of the Montreal representative the annual tournament was given to Montreal. This tournament has always been held at Niagara-on-the-lake in the past, and it was an experiment to see what Montreal could do. The local committee A.C. Dunlop and H.M. Suckling, took the matter in hand, and on August 01 the biggest tournament ever held in Montreal was started on the beautiful grass courts of the Mount Royal Tennis Club.
