Report The first competitions held under the auspices of the Swiss Lawn Tennis Association were played on the courts of the Grasshopper Club, Zurich. A good number of entries from all parts of Switzerland had been secured, and four different nationalities were represented on the card. The well-known Austrian player, Chevalier Paul von Hertz Hertenried, succeeded in adding to the Championship of Vienna, which he had already won, the much coveted title of the Championship of Switzerland, after a very stubborn match, in which he met Mr Francis L. Fassitt, of Nice and Monte Carlo fame.
We understand that the next championship meeting of the Swiss Lawn Tennis Association will take place in Château d’Oex in 1898, where another cup, for players of Swiss nationality only, will be added to the programme, and altogether it seems to us that the Swiss Lawn Tennis Association is in a very good way to attain their first and only object, viz., to promote lawn tennis meetings, unconnected with any hotel or Kurverein, in Switzerland
