Report MX: Margaret Bracewell/William Renshaw d. Blanche Bingley/James Dwight (US) 5-7 7-5 6-4

The Mixed doubles final had both drama and humor. Bingley and American Dwight Davis had a match point vs Margaret Bracewell and William Renshaw, a pair who were unbeaten in many a season. Davis, who was very short, had poached on several balls to put volleys away. He turned around at one point and declared he hoped he wasn't blocking her view. "Oh no, thank you. I can see right over your head!", Blanche retorted, to the mirth of the crowd. Bracewell and Renshaw recovered to remain unbeaten. (p 60 of "Lawn Tennis Recollections, by H Chipp, 1988).
