About

The Honourable Peter Aitken was the second son and the youngest of the three children of the Canadian-born newspaper publisher and political figure Sir William Maxwell (‘Max’) Aitken, later 1st Baron Beaverbrook. Peter Aitken attended Westminster School in London and later gained the rank of captain in the Royal Fusiliers. The English writer Rudyard Kipling was Peter’s godfather (however, a rift later developed between Kipling and Max Aitken when the latter came out in support of Irish Home Rule). Peter Aitken was on a yachting trip around Denmark and Sweden in the summer of 1947 when he complained of heart pains; he subsequently died in a hotel in Stockholm at the age of 35.
