About

Frank Still was born in Hong Kong to Charles Still, a merchant, and Ellen Still (née Stokes), both of whom were English. In the Census of England taken in 1881, Frank Still was living in Fulham, London, with his widowed mother. In 1884, he began taking part in some of the nascent lawn tennis tournaments being held in south-east England. On 4 March 1882, when he was 19 or 20, he married Florence Lucy Marion Kerr in Saint Luke’s Church, Kensington, London. They would have two daughters together.

In 1888, Frank Still, who was a merchant and advertising contractor, went to live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for business purposes. In 1893, he won the men’s singles title at the River Plate Championships held at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club. He also spent time travelling to other parts of South America, including Chile, for business reasons. In 1904, he filed for divorce from his wife, Florence. She had had affairs with two men while Frank was away in South America. A decree nisi was granted in 1905.
