Obituary – Judge Thomas Rolin

Judge Thomas Rolin died this morning after a long illness. Mr Thomas Rolin was born in Sydney on October 12, 1863, and was the son of a solicitor. He was educated at the Sydney Grammar School and Sydney University, gaining his B.A., with gold medal, in 1893, and his M.A. in 1885. He was called to the Bar a year later.

In 1912, he was appointed King’s Counsel (K.C.). He was an acting judge in the District Court in 1905 and 1908, and he had been a Judge of the Industrial Court since 1917. In 1919, he was President of the Necessary Commodities Commission. Judge Rolin contributed considerably to law literature, being author of The Companies Act, No Liability Act and Supreme Court Procedure, with a later supplement.

He married Lydia, a daughter of Dr R. Bowker, M.L.C., in 1894. His principal recreation was rowing and he was captain of the Sydney University Rowing Club from 1889 to 1891.
