Maxwell Brown, Jr., MD, 74, of Bardstown died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011 at Hosparus of Louisville. He was born Oct. 11, 1937, in Louisville. He was a graduate of St. Xavier High School, the University of Notre Dame and St. Louis University Medical School. He was a veteran US Navy Lieutenant. He had a private practice in Internal Medicine in Bardstown for more than 30 years. He was on the medical staff of Flaget Memorial Hospital, was a former chairman of its Medical Staff and a member of the hospital board. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish. He was a nationally ranked tennis player. Dr. Brown was a beloved husband and father and a respected physician. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Maxwell, Sr. and Anastasia Cassin Brown, and a sister, Cassandra Connell. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Sue Lancaster Brown; eight children, Cathy (Danny) Brewer of Fisherville, Patricia (Kurt) Hines of Bardstown, Susan (Gerry) Hardin of Cox's Creek, Chris (Dr. Julie) Brown of Springfield, Dr. Mike (Dr. Stephanie) Brown of McMurray, PA, Stasia (Edward) Hessel and Scott (Dawn) Brown, all of Louisville, and Dr. Max (Tia) Brown of Frankfort; 14 grandchildren and a great-grandson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Hammer will be the celebrant with a US Navy Military Honors service conducted at the graveside. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at the Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6 p.m. pm conducted by Deacon John Hamilton. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or the St. Joseph Bereavement Committee. Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
