About

Pierre Passemard was the brother of the lawn tennis champion Simonne Passemard (later Mme Mathieu) who won the women’s singles title at the International French Championships in 1938 and 1939, and after whom Court Simonne Mathieu is named at Roland Garros, the venue for the same tournament since 1928. Pierre and Simonne Passemard were two of the three children of Gaston Alfred Lucien Passemard, a banker, and Alice Henriette Passemard (née Melchior). Pierre Passemard later became a lawn tennis coach, possibly in the 1930s, although he took part in some amateur tournaments again just after the end of World War Two.
