Harry Buttimer attended the University of California at Berkeley. He was later one of the founding members of the Association of California Community College Administrators (A.C.C.C.A.) and Chancellor of Contra Costa Community College in California. The annual Harry Buttimer Distinguished Administrator Award was created in his memory.
