Services for Sgt. Robert Charles Smidl will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at 203 S. Marion St., Oak Park. Burial will be in Mount Emblem cemetery. Sgt. Smidl was killed in action in France July 19, 1944, while in charge of a tank platoon. Before entering the army he had been prominent in tennis and basketball at Oak Park-River Forest High school, at the University of Chicago, and at the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs.(Blanche) Charles P. Smidl, 303 Franklin av., River Forest; a sister, Shirley Alice, and his grandmother, Mrs. P.J. Smidl.
A Scholarship was establiehed at William and Mary College to honor him.
