Info In 1909, the Société Athlétique de la Villa Primrose club in Bordeaux uniquely held the French National Championships tournament at the same time as it annual Coupe de La Primrose international tournament.

In 1909, two of the semi-finalists in the men’s singles event for the Coupe de La Primrose, Daniel Lawton and Allen Muhr, withdrew from the event before playing their semi-final match against each other. This left the two other semi-finalists – Max Decugis and Jean Samazeuilh – to play each other. However, after the withdrawal of Lawton and Muhr, it was decided to make the outstanding semi-final the final and to award the Coupe de la Primrose to its winner. This turned out to be Max Decugis, who defeated Jean Samazeuilh in four sets.
