Report County Dublin Championships Meeting Abandoned

Rain caused the abandonment of the unluckiest County Dublin Championships meeting in history at Carrickmines on Saturday. Continual rain flooded the courts, and after one championship match had been played, the referee had no option but to abandon the tournament in the afternoon. Trevor McVeagh, winner of the men’s singles title for the last two years, was presented with the cup as his own property. He offered to let it stand over until next year’s championships, but the committee decided to present him with the cup.
