In 1891, a rival tournament was held at almost the same time at the East Gloucestershire County Cricket Ground in Cheltenham, but with a poorer entry than the above tournament.

Report From "Pastime", June 17, 1891: "Splendid weather, good entries, large attendances and interesting play combined to make this tournament one of the best ever held in Cheltenham. That such a success should have been obtained in the face of a rival tournament held at the same time only a mile away, speaks volumes for the energy and enterprise of the executive.

"The courts were in admirable condition, and the stood the hard work very well. False bounds were absolutely unknown, and not a complaint was made throughout the week against the condition of the turf."

Mens doubles final (Draw: 12): Lacy Sweet/Barlow def. Lewis/Chapman 6-3 6-2
