"Sport" No. 24 of March 23, 1950

GLIWICE. On Sunday at 12 noon, the national tennis tournament on the indoor court was officially opened. 12 seniors, including Olejniszyn and Bełdowski, 12 juniors and 6 women, take part in the tournament. The most interesting games on the first day include the victory of 16-year-old Wilczek (Stal Gliwice) over Riedel (Ogniwo Bielsko) 4: 6, 7: 5, 7: 5 and the two and a half-hour fight between Kossakowski (Spójnia Warszawa) and Dietrich (Stal) finished with a victory for a tennis player from Gliwice 7: 5, 3: 6, 9:11. In the seniors' games, Kozłowski (Ogniwo Kraków) was beaten by Piksie (Częstochowa) 3: 6, 0: 6, and the match between Piotrowski and Borowczak was interrupted at 4: 6, 7: 5.

The junior competition was relatively strongest, as it was attended by "as many as" three juniors classified last season in the "top ten" (Piotrowski, Kozłowski and Kanikowski). These games ended with Kanikowski's victory.

Kanikowski eliminated a certain favorite Piotrowski from Stal in Gliwice in the games of his group, and in the final matches he did not lose a single set.
