About

William Ferguson was one of the fourteen children – nine daughters and five sons – of William Ferguson, senior (1829-87), a Writer to the Signet/lawyer, and Elizabeth Robertson Ferguson (née Crosbie; circa 1837-99). Two of William’s sisters, Alice (later Mrs Hudleston) and Winifred (later Mrs Heriot) were among Scotland’s top female lawn tennis players in the early decades of the twentieth century. Alice Ferguson notably won the women’s singles title at the Scottish Championships three times: in 1902, 1906 and 1907.
