A translator and interpreter, Daniel Malcolm was also later Lecturer in Zulu at Natal University.
From the South African Biographical Index: Daniel Malcolm was appointed as Clerk and Zulu Interpreter in the Magistrate’s Office, Bulwer, 1904; then as Clerk in the Native Affairs Department, Pietermaritzburg, 1907. He was appointed Sub-Inspector of Schools, 1910, and later as Chief Inspector of Native Education for Natal.
