Obituary – Mr Archibald H. Windeyer
Mr Archibald Hulbert Windeyer, a solicitor of Deniliquin, died in a private hospital in Melbourne yesterday, aged 59 years. He was a son of Mr. Walter Orton Windeyer, of Wantabadgery station, Wagga, and was born in Goulburn. He was admitted to practice as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1896, and then joined the legal firm of Naughton and Joseph, which later became known as Naughton, Alexander, and Windeyer. Subsequently Mr. Windeyer acquired the whole practice. He was admitted to the Bar in Melbourne.
He was one of the leading citizens of Deniliquin, being the leading spirit in all public matters in that town. He was Mayor for five terms. At the time of his death he was chairman of the Deniliquin Hospital Board, president of the local bowling club, honorary secretary of the Southern Riverina Picnic Turf Club (a position he had held since the club was formed in 1902, except for one year when he was president), chairman of Elliott's Riverina Brewery Company, and an alderman. He was a prominent member of the Deniliquin golf and tennis clubs. He represented New South Wales in interstate tennis matches.
