John Frederick Graham. M.A., Lieutenant-Colonel (Temporary) Royal Field Artillery and Lieutenant-Colonel Madras Artillery Volunteers, second son of hte late Robert Graham, M.A., Trinity College, Dublin, by his wife Cecilia Mary, daughter of Patrick Dargan, of Eagleville, Clontarf, County Dublin; b. at Kingstown, County Dublin, 16 March 1878; educated Trinity College, Dublin, where he had a very distinguished University career; was Senior Moderator and Gold Medallist in Mathematics, and Mathematical Physics, a Brooke Prizeman and Professor Woods’ Prizeman in Political Economy; obtained his M.A. degree in 1905, was appointed Account-General at Madras to the Government of India; held the same post in the United Provinces until he returned to Ireland on leave in September 1915.

He was Lieutenant-Colonel of the Madras Artillery Volunteers, and having offered his services to the War Office, was appointed Temporary Major, afterwards Lieutenat-Colonel Royal Field Artillery, the following November; served with the Expeditionary Force in France, and was killed in action 1 July 1916, while directing his battery.
