Dr Arnold Jacobi, who was a lawyer by profession, enjoyed more success at table tennis than he did at lawn tennis. He notably won the men’s singles title at the inaugural International Table Tennis Championships tournament, held in London in 1926 (he defended the same title successfully two years later in Stockholm, where a young Fred Perry was also a competitor).
