About

Erskine Watson was the brother of fellow lawn tennis players Maud Watson and Lillian Watson. In 1884, Maud became the winner of the inaugural women’s singles event at Wimbledon, and retained her title the following year. She and her siblings were the children of the Reverend Henry William Watson and Emily Frances Watson (née Rowe). All of the Watson children were born while Henry Watson was an assistant master at Harrow School in London. Erskine Watson studied law at Cambridge University and later practised as a solicitor.
