After matriculating at Pembroke College, Cambridge, in 1894, he took the natural sciences tripos before studying medicine. M.D. 1907. Joined Royal Army Medical Corps. Medical Officer of Health at Khartoum and Omdurman. Later Chief Sanitary Officer to the Sudan government. Order of the Nile (Egypt) 3rd class. Served in World War One, in Egypt; Medjidieh, 4th class.
