Stuart Anderson was the brother of fellow lawn tennis player Kenneth B. Anderson. Stuart Anderson attended Westminster School in London before going up to Cambridge University.

Entered the Army (Second Lieutenant, Royal Artillery, 1900; Lieutenant, 1901; Captain, 1910). Served in the South African War (Instructor, Field Artillery, Australian Common-wealth Military Forces, 1912). In the Great War, Major, Royal Artillery, 1914; Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel, 1918; mentioned in despatches; Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.), 1917; American Distinguished Service Medal, and Legion of Honour, 5th Class. Retired with honorary rank of Brigadier-General, 1920. Director of the Exchange Telegraph Co., Ltd. Married and had issue.
