John Hoff was born in 1906 in Comanche, Texas. He served as mayor of Comanche from 1935 to 1939. At that time he was the youngest mayor in the United States. An accomplished tennis player, Hoff was the varsity tennis coach at the University of Houston without compensation for 21 years. In 10 seasons Houston won 8 team titles, 8 singles and 8 doubles championships under his tutelage. Hoff also enjoyed many wins in his own career, accruing numerous championships and awards.
