Anglo-Indian. Son of Abel Joshua Higginbotham, founder, in Madras in 1844, of Higginbotham & Co., one of the oldest bookselling and publishing firms in India. On his father?s death in 1881, Charles took over the running of the business. A feature in the ?Publisher?s Circular? magazine of 25 May 1901 notes that Charles Higginbotham was seven times lawn tennis champion of South India.
