A stockbroker by profession, Willie Goodbody was the brother of fellow lawn players Arthur, Marcus and Manliffe Goodbody. Willie Goodbody suffered from poor health in later life and turned to the sport of billiards, at which he became an expert. He died in Dublin in January 1908 at the age of 41.
