About

Percy French, as he was known, studied civil engineering at Trinity College, Dublin before working as an inspector of drains. He later became one of Ireland’s greatest songwriters and was also a singer and entertainer as well a journalist and an excellent watercolourist who mainly painted landscapes. A keen follower of lawn tennis, he took part in a small number of tournaments in his younger days.
