Walter Bray, listed in some early sources as ‘Vladimir Bray’, was the brother of fellow lawn tennis player George Bray. Both brothers were born to English parents in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The two brothers notably won the men’s doubles title together at the All-Russian Championships in the years 1908-11.
Walter Bray later emigrated to England, probably following the October Revolution of 1917. On 2 March 1921, he married Zinaida Dessino at the registry office in Chelsea, London; this was a second marriage for the bridegroom.
