Brother of Hugh Barrington Le Fanu. Brinsley and Hugh were the nephews of Sheridan Le Fanu (1814-1873), the Irish writer well known for his Gothic tales, mystery novels and horror fiction. Sheridan and Brinsley le Fanu were partly named after their ancestor Richard Brinsley Sheridan, the Irish playwright and MP whose most famous works include the plays The Rivals and The School for Scandal.
