Lieutenant Francis J. Hadden was the brother of fellow lawn tennis player Frederick Hadden. Lieutenant Hadden died of pneumonia in a hospital in Giza, Egypt, in May 1916 at the age of 54.

Lieutenant Frank J. Hadden, Remount Squadron, Egypt, died of pneumonia at Giza Hospital, Cairo, on May 5. He was born in 1861, and educated at Rugby, and was for many years tea-planting in Ceylon. His name was well known in connexion with racing and polo and all sports. He obtained a commission in the Remounts in July, 1915, and has been working out in Egypt since that date. His second son, Second Lieutenant Arthur Hadden, 53rd Sikhs, was killed on March 8.
