About

Georges Gouttenoire was the older brother of fellow lawn tennis player Henri Gouttenoire. They were the sons of Jean Gouttenoire and Marie-Louise Gouttenoire (née Vadon). Before moving with his family from Tunis to Sousse, Jean Gouttenoire had been one of the main promoters of lawn tennis in Tunisia. Both of the Gouttenoire brothers would enjoy a good deal of success at lawn tennis tournaments held in Tunisia and the rest of North Africa. In 1947, Jean Gouttenoire founded the Tennis Club de Sousse, which was initially open only to French and other European residents. Jean and Henri Gouttenoire both managed the electricity plant in Sousse at different times.
