Death of Arthur A. Chomley
Residents of Sydney have for months noted with regret that very apparent illness of “Pat” Chomley, to give him his familiar title of affection. He passed away last Wednesday, and was buried on Friday at South Head. The Victorian Association requested its delegate to attend as an expression of their sympathy.
From 1883 onward Pat and Alec Chomley represented Victoria, and assisted in creating the present universal method in doubles, in which the server follows in on his service. They were among the few who founded the Victorian Association. Mr Norman E. Brookes introduced Pat to me once (not knowing I was already an old friend), as “the man who taught me to play tennis.” He was well under fifty, and his early passing is much regretted by many friends.
