From ‘The Times’, 16 September 2011: Eikichi Itoh was a leading and influential Japanese businessman in Osaka and the Kansai who held various posts, including that of chairman, in C. Itoh and Company (Itochu), one of Japan’s leading trading and investment companies. He was known as a strong supporter of close relations between Japan and Britain, for which he was appointed honorary KBE [Knight of the British Empire] in 1973.
