About

Walter Schoeller was the son of Caesar Schoeller, owner of a renowned worsted yarn spinning factory. Walter studied chemistry at university, and from 1918 ran the Schoeller Textile Group with his cousin Friedrich Arthur. From 1934 to 1976, Walter Schoeller was central president of the Zurich-based Grasshopper Club, and from 1934 owner of what was at the time that football club’s stadium, Hardturm. An all-round sportsman, Walter Schoeller became European rowing champion and was a Swiss champion not only at lawn tennis, but also at football and hockey.
