Charles Sutton was the brother of the famous lawn tennis-playing Sutton sisters, Violet, Ethel, Florence and the youngest, May, who was U.S. singles champion in 1904, and Wimbledon singles champion in 1905 and 1907.
Through May, Charles was the uncle of another player, Dorothy Sutton Bundy, who won the women’s singles title at the Australian Championships in 1938; Dorothy’s father was the lawn tennis player Thomas Bundy. Through Violet, Charles was the uncle of John Hope Doeg, who won the men’s singles title at the U.S. Championships in 1930; Violet’s husband was Harold Hope Doeg.
