About

Al G. Hill Sr. (1904-1988) was an avid tennis player and a benefactor of tennis throughout his life. Born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and raised in Colorado, Hill attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs. He was captain of the school’s tennis team and also played college baseball and basketball. Hill moved to Dallas in 1926 and founded the Dallas Tennis Association in the 1930s. He acted as president of the organization in the late 1950s. While president he worked with the Parks and Recreation Board of Dallas in the sponsorship and development of the Samuell Grand Tennis Center. He also furthered the success of the Cotton Bowl Championship in Dallas.

In 1957 Hill built an indoor tennis court in Dallas, the first indoor court west of the Mississippi River, and held private tournaments there that attracted some well known tennis players.
