About

From The Herald (Melbourne), 31 December 1949:

By Harry Hopman

One of the few links with championship tennis of the last century was broken today with the death of a fine all-round sportsman, Stanley F. Diddams (‘Dids’ to his friends). He was 80. The doubles pair of Alf Dunlop and Diddams was unbeaten in the Victorian pennant and in championship play in the years 1895, 1896 and 1897, and they won the Victorian doubles championship five times, from 1895 to 1898 and in 1900.

In those years Mr Diddams was a great stalwart of the Melbourne Cricket Club pennant teams and in recent years was a staunch supporter of the club in its pennant tennis play. Mr Diddams joined the South Yarra Tennis Club (now Royal South Yarra) in 1902 and played pennant tennis for seven years, on and off, with Sir Norman Brookes. With Sir Norman and John Koch, he was a Victorian tennis selector for some years.

When in this country early in this century as a representative of the Bank of New South Wales Mr Diddams played tennis and later both golf and bowls, and excelled in all three sports. Mr Diddams had been ill for many months.
