About

George Holmes was the brother of fellow lawn tennis players Beatrix, Harold, Richard and William Holmes. They were five of the eleven children of Captain William Nassau Holmes (1832-1919), a soldier in the British Army and later a farmer, and native of County Kildare in Ireland, and Jane Marie Holmes (née Donaldson; 1838-1908), who was from County Monaghan in Ireland. In later life George Holmes left Australia to live in Canada, where he also enjoyed notable success at lawn tennis tournaments.
