Obituary

Mr Donald McNeil Greig, O.B.E., died suddenly on Tuesday at the age of 62. Greig, who at the time of his death was joint free trade manager of Courage and Barclay Breweries, entered the brewing trade in 1932 as a free trade salesman for Barclay Perkins and Co., Ltd.

He served in the First World War in the Royal Flying Corps, attained the rank of major, and was appointed O.B.E., and subsequently he and Mr Edward Higgs became well known for their pioneering work in connexion with the flying of national newspapers from London to various parts of the British Isles and to the Continent. During one of these newspaper flights from Hendon to Portsmouth in the 1920s he survived a serious crash on Portsdown Hill.

Greig represented England several times at lawn tennis, played at Wimbledon, and won several European doubles championships. He was a former singles champion of Poland. During the Second World War he served with the Royal Air Force Regiment.

He is survived by his wife and son.
