About

Popularly known as Clifton. In 1907, he married Marjorie McGough, a lawn tennis champion in her own right, and sister of another champion, Leslie McGough.

From ?The Mercury?, 18 April 1933:

?The death of Mr T.A. Clifton Allanby took place at Glenalla, Ryde Street, North Hobart, yesterday. He was well known in business circles, having spent 35 years of his life in the employment of Cascade Brewery Company and Tasmanian Breweries Limited. He was secretary of the latter company until his recent illness. He took a keen interest in civic affairs, and was secretary of the North Hobart Progress Association, and also to the council of Combined Progress Associations.

?Mr Allanby will also be remembered as a keen tennis player. For many years, as secretary, he helped to hold the then Tasmanian Tennis Association together. He represented the South on quite a number of occasions in intra-state events. Latterly he took to bowls, and was a member of the Derwent Green until his health prevented him from participating further in this recreation.?
