Charles G. Hamilton was one of the nine children – three sons and six daughters – of the pastoralist and company director Edward William Terrick Hamilton (1808-98), a native of Loughton in Essex, and Anne Hamilton (née Thacker; 1824-91), who was from Northchurch in Hertfordshire.
Charles G. Hamilton attended Eton College before going up to Cambridge University. He later qualified as a barrister and subsequently worked in the financial sector. He was made a member of the Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in the King’s birthday honours list in 1918. Hamilton died in Chelsea, London, in June 1955 at the age of 97.
