John Hyde was the son of the Reverend Arthur Hyde, a Church of Ireland clergyman, and Elizabeth Hyde (née Oldfield). John Hyde attended Dublin University (Trinity College, Dublin). John’s brother, Douglas Hyde (1860-1949), served as the first President of Ireland, from June 1938 to June 1945.
