An all-round athlete, in 1902 Charles Cuff notably won the 400 yards and 880-yard races at the New Zealand Amateur Athletics Championships in Christchurch. He also represented Otago, Southland, Wellington and Taranaki at cricket. He joined the Bank of New Zealand at an early age, eventually rising to the position of manager in Ashburton, a role he occupied for eleven years.
