Thomas Knox was the son of Charles Jeffrey Knox and Elizabeth Georgina Knox (née Logan), both of whom were English. Thomas attended Charterhouse Public School in Godalming, Surrey. In later life he lived and worked in Argentina, where he was a founding member of the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club. He married Emily Glasse Lespade on 29 August 1904, in Concordia, Argentina; his wife was from Uruguay. Thomas Knox also played competitive cricket.
