About

Wilmot Lane was an electrical engineer by profession. His sisters Elsie and Hilda were also lawn tennis players; Elsie Lane notably won the women’s singles title at the International German Championships in 1898, 1904 and 1905. They were three of the nine children of another Wilmot Lane, a barrister-of-law and civil servant in British India, and Martha Lane (née Osborn); both parents were born in British India.
