John de Meulmeester, as he was sometimes called, was the son of fellow lawn tennis player, Alphonse de Meulmeester, and married another lawn tennis player, his compatriot Josane Sigart, on 7 October 1933. One year earlier Josane had won the women’s doubles at Wimbledon with the French player Doris Metaxa.
