About

A civil engineer by profession, Fleetwood Keighley-Peach spent several years living in Spain in the early decades of the twentieth century when he was employed by the Rio Tinto Company, a metals and mining business founded in 1873.

Fleetwood Keighley-Peach was involved in mining operations whose purpose was the exploitation of the ore and sulphide deposits located close to the Rio Tinto River, which rises in the Sierra Nevada mountains in Andalusia. The focus of the mining operations was Huelva, a city in south-western Spain located along the Gulf of Cadiz coast, in an estuary formed by the confluence of two rivers, the Rio Tinto and the Rio Odiel.

While living in Spain, Fleetwood Keighley-Peach was a member of the Rio Tinto Lawn Tennis Club and notably won the men’s singles title at the Spanish National Championships in 1921, when that particular tournament was held in Huelva.
