Ranolf Innes-Taylor was born in New Zealand, but moved to Canada circa 1900. He served with the Canadian Infantry in Belgium during World War One, eventually rising to the rank of captain. As well as playing lawn tennis, he also wrote on the sport. He was the father of the renowned explorer Alan Innes-Taylor.
