Arthur Norris was a double bronze medallist at the 1900 Paris Olympics. He was beaten in the men’s singles semi-final by his fellow Briton Harold Mahony and in the men’s doubles partnered Mahony but lost in the semi-finals to the Doherty brothers, Reggie and Laurie. Arthur played at Wimbledon seven times between 1897 and 1905 and his best performance in the singles was in 1903 when he reached the last 16 before losing in three straight sets to the eventual beaten finalist Frank Riseley. Norris reached the men’s doubles quarter-finals on three occasions, in 1898, 1901 and 1903. His best individual performance was in reaching the final of the 1904 British Covered Courts championships but lost to Josiah Ritchie in three straight sets. A member of Queen’s Club for most of his senior career, he retired from tennis in 1909.
