Served in the medical corps in Egypt during World War One. Studied medicine at Ormond College, Melbourne University; was captain of the university tennis team while a student. Later travelled to London, England, to complete the Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons examinations; also had some practical work experience at the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin, Ireland. While in Dublin, he entered and won the men’s singles title at the Irish Championships in 1923. Died of military tuberculosis in Saint Bartholomew’s Hospital, London.
