Jack Philpotts was the twin brother of fellow lawn tennis player Harry Philpotts. Jack was killed when a Douglas DC-2 aeroplane operated by Eastern Airlines struck a pylon on take-off and crashed at Daytona Beach Municipal Airport in Florida in August 1937. Jack’s son, Peter, survived the crash.
